Some docs feel that having levels of an anti inflammatory prior to pain will blunt the response. Pain is mediated by a chemical called prostaglandin. The anti-inflammatory drugs blunt its production.

No one really knows the mechanism of action of Tylenol, although it’s probably central, but it is not an anti-inflammatory.

FWIW-we avoided NSAIDS before and after the shot both times, even though the only evidence for an effect I’d before the shot. We did take Tylenol for the sore arms. After the 2nd shot we were both fatigued for 24 hours. We got Moderna at a small pharmacy about 30 miles south of us.
