Primeras ImpreZIHones

As of today, since April 18, 2020 Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 2,242 confirmed cases of Covid-19 (6 more than yesterday), 182 that have resulted in fatalities, 32 that are currently active, and approximately 1,884 that have recovered. There's been a slight rise in currently active cases since last week. Let's see if this is the start of the Semana Santa holiday spike. Still too soon to say.

I think it's safe to say the first day of vaccinations wasn't exactly a success. My wife went at 10:30 and just arrived home about 7:30. I don't have any numbers, but I'll be surprised if even 2,500 people were vaccinated at all 3 centers. They will never reach the goal of around 19,000 in 3 days at this rate. Not even close. Those who went super early simply waited longer. I believe it wasn't until around 1:00 that shots actually began being administered. Having elderly people standing in the tropical sun on a sidewalk for that many hours is a recipe for danger. One woman passed out and cracked her head open on the pavement in the Fibazi parking lot and had to be taken away to the hospital. I guess she won't get vaccinated after all that wait and bother. Let's hope tomorrow goes smoother. I believe things have gone similarly in many places on their first day.

Acapulco is all finished with its first round of vaccinations for the elderly.

Zihuatanejo appears to have the best weather in the nation. Almost everywhere else has hotter temperatures if not a downright heat wave. I don't think it even reached 29°C here today. And tonight it'll be in the low 20's. Perfect for sleeping and listening to the light surf a short distance away.

Be sure to keep up with our weather on my Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa Weather page.

More whale art along the waterfront.
