Guerrero's health authorities currently register 284 active cases of Covid-19 in Zihuatanejo, 13 in La Unión, 48 in Petatlán, 48 in Técpan, 947 in Acapulco, and 2,800 for the entire state. So much for my falling numbers comment yesterday. Please remember that you're expected to wear a facemask here when indoors in stores and offices as well as when travelling by public transportation (taxi, bus, plane).

We had a little deluge this morning, a good tropical rain, thankfully short-lived. Much of downtown flooded, and our street was just about to flood when the rain let up. I've seen it rain like this for days and even weeks on end. An atypical rain for the middle of July en plena Canícula. Usually we get a big storm at the beginning of the month then nothing until after La Canícula. I loved every bit of it except for the backflow of drainage and the flooding that was a problem for others. It certainly brought down the temps. The electricity went out shortly after the rain started coming down hard, but about an hour later it was back on. Cinco de Mayo was one of the most flooded parts of town, as usual. Garbage washed up on all the beaches, and the tourists at Las Gatas were not happy. Probably best not to swim for a couple of days until cleaner water circulates back into the bay. It's muddy and probably full of fecal matter from the hillsides and other clandestine open bathrooms right now. Sad to see the huge tree that fell down by the Oxxo in La Ropa. I hope no one suffered any damage.

One of the jewels on Playa La Ropa besides the beach itself is Bungalows Vepao, an amazing little place with all kinds of nice little comforts.

Earlier this week before the rain the water looked very inviting.
