Guerrero's health authorities confirm 2 currently active cases of Covid-19 in Zihuatanejo, 1 in Petatlán, 53 in Acapulco, and 139 in the entire state.

Monday night we saw and heard loudspeakers set up all along the waterfront playing unsynchronized traditional Mexican music, much to the chagrin of local musicians who were unable to perform and earn their living from diners at local restaurants until the event ended. It turned out a group travel agents were being entertained by the municipal government. While they certainly are welcome, it's a shame to see so much waste of the public's resources and disrespect of everyone else. Once again, the pier was closed to the public. The ayuntamiento would rather us dirty locals and poor visitors have to walk the unlit dangerous walkway behind the offices of the Capitanía that reeks of urine instead of finding a more suitable venue for their events. ¡ES UN MUELLE, NO UN SALÓN DE FIESTAS!

The water temp continues cooling, registering a nipper 27°C today. Might seem warm to folks from cooler climes, but locals get chilly from water temps that low. This Monday evening there was a lovely cool breeze blowing down from the sierra. Quite refreshing after a warm day of high humidity (81%).

Whales are still in the area, but the official whale watching season ends on March 15. Zihuatanejo Ixtapa Charters offers a nice variety of charter vessels available for whale watching or anything else you'd like to do out on the ocean. Shoot them off an e-mail.
