Guerrero's health officials confirm 6 currently active cases of Covid-19 in Zihuatanejo, 1 in Petatlán, 1 in Atoyac, 72 in Acapulco, and 157 in the entire state.

We continue enjoying absolutely picture-postcard perfect weather! At times it looks like it wants to rain, but no such luck for us so far. Keeping fingers crossed.

There has been at least one murder a day for the past week in Zihuatanejo of mostly young men but also a mechanic and a taxi driver without any results or comments whatsoever on the part of the municipal authorities. Locals are extremely concerned at the absence of any official response. While the violence is unlikely to affect foreigners or tourists, it appears things are getting worse while all we see the local government doing is pose for photos. Security cameras and professionalized police should be a much bigger priority for the local government than painted concrete.

While locals welcome the GuitarFest, the municipal pier is NOT a salon de eventos, and the continued lack of consideration for the people who use and visit the pier every evening forcing them to walk the dangerous and extremely foul-smelling walkway behind the port captain's office each time an event is held at the pier is only generating bad feelings on the part of locals and a terrible image of Zihuatanejo on the part of our tourists. As I've mentioned before, I suspect this is the fault of municipal authorities. I'd hate to think the GuitarFest organizers could be responsible for this, but they should speak up and not allow this to continue out of respect for locals and our tourists.
