Why can't you just apply for an Alaska Airlines Visa card?

I don't think they're available to Canadians. When I applied for an Alaska card, I had no choice: it was an MBNA Bank Mastercard.

That’s correct. Alaska partnered with Visa in the USA and with MasterCard in Canada.

I wish I could say that I will miss the Alaska Mastercard, but I won’t. I used to greatly enjoy the YVR->LAX-> flights. (Not so much the ZIH->LAX->YVR flights, experiencing customs/immigration at LAX.)

I haven’t flown on Alaska since they changed their schedules so that YVR-ZIH requires an overnight hotel stay. That expense makes the flights impractical for me. I have something like 140,000 points that have been sitting there for years.
