I guess your dog isnt a pocket dog that fits in a carrier under the seat. Are there airlines that do and how much extra do you pay?

He is 10 kg, so too large for under the seat.

Back when Alaska Airlines had decent connections from Vancouver I took pets back and forth to Zihuatanejo in the hold. AS didn’t permit them in the cabin. The cost then was nominal.

Then I stopped flying AS. WestJet permitted in-cabin, but not in the hold, and my cat enjoyed time in the sun.

Now, my only option is AeroMexico flying ZIH->MEX->YVR. The cost per animal varies by season and has been between US$230-$280 one-way.
