Several forecasts show the formation of a hurricane making a beeline for Zihuatanejo by next Saturday evening or early Sunday morning. Whatever happens, there's likely to be a lot of wind and rain by next Saturday. I can't stress enough taking the time to prepare for the worst while hoping for the best. There's also a mar de fondo warning currently in effect for the next 72 hours. Keep a close eye on our local weather.
Tourism has dropped off significantly. While there are still visitors around, we haven't seen anything remotely resembling the crowds that were still here last week. Some higher level schools appear to have already opened since I've seen a few students in uniforms, so I expect that's a contributing factor in the reduced numbers of visitors this last week of vacaciones de verano.
