The water at the main beaches in Zihuatanejo has been pronounced officially safe to swim in by municipal and federal authorities. At least on the day which the measurements were taken.

Rob, I couldn’t see any other mentions about this so has the water been unsafe for swimming recently?

No, not to my knowledge. I just don't trust measurements that are only reported before vacation seasons instead of with regularity such as weekly or biweekly. Water conditions constantly change.
