Amazingly, both Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo registered occupancy rates above 83% this Friday, according to the daily cifras alegres published by the state's SECTUR office. The beaches are more crowded than ever. Forget parking downtown. The buses are also running out of parking places. Waterfront restaurants are full. Many large families are strolling the waterfront and the downtown streets. Así son las Fiestas Navideñas en Zihuatanejo.

Thursday night was another cool one with a beautiful bright full moon and a crisp clear sky in the morning over an ocean that looked like glass with a few cumulus clouds marching along a ways off the coast. Sure beats the heck out of the stick-to-your-sheets weather where you start sweating as soon as you step out of the shower! Friday afternoon was still good and warm, but it feels like there's less humidity since the cold front passed through. Absolutely picture-postcard-perfect weather!

As is habitual at this time of year, there is currently a water shortage in Zihuatanejo, so go easy on what you have in your tinacos and cisterns.

Apparently sometime during the evening the Santa Claus in his sleigh by the amate tree at Plaza del Artista disappeared. All that was left this morning were a few cotton balls on the ground where he'd been. I suspect he's gone someplace nearby more secluded for a well-deserved rest.
