Patzcuaro Fireball Hockey

I just found out that an old friend from high school days has been going to Patzcuaro every winter for years (knows the owner of Casa Encantada) so I asked her if she has ever seen the sport played by the ancients in that area.

Back in 2008 the city of Patzcuaro had a tourism event held on the basketball court in Z there were singers and the unique dancers dressed in white with colourd sashes masks and wooden shoes but there was also a demonstration game of a unique sport using a flaming wooden ball and sticks somewhat like a field hockey stick but natural and much longer. Was anyone else there that night? I believe there were 4 per side and the sticks were laid out in a circle in the centre of the court. The players picked up their sticks and a ref of sorts walked in and placed a flaming ball in the middle and the game was on. Being from the north and very familiar with hockey a leaned into my brother in law and said this should be interesting and dont take your eyes off the ball. A player from the opposite end of the court wound up to take a slap shot and I believe I exclained Holly Sh$t!! having a pretty good idea what was coming. The shot went wild bounced between peoples legs sitting on chairs on the court them laughing and enjoying it seemingly oblivious to the fact it was on fire then it ricosheted off the corner of the court as same brother in law lifted his bare legs and went it back into play. Another time they flipped it right over the heads of the crowd out to the beach between the fishing boats, fortuneately they had a second flaming ball handy (of course) and the game resumed. Very exciting game.

Just wondering if they have ever brought this demo sport back to town since then? It was the only time I found that I had left my camera in my room so if anyone has any photos they could post it would be appreciated as some may think this is just a fable drempt up after too many at one of the local establishments.
