Pharmacy Pricing
Many (most? all?) packages of drugs sold in Mexico....at least the over-the-counter ones....have a price on the package end, presumably from a government regulator, indicating the maximum allowable retail price. Invariably, that maximum allowable price is much higher than the actual sale price.
(This also includes all the generics sold by Farmacia Similares.)
For example, an ointment I recently purchased had a government-established maximum of 71 pesos. At Similares, I paid 24 pesos, raising the question of the usefulness of the government maximums.
