Sorry to say the ecocide at La Ropa is mostly complete between La Gaviota and Capricho del Rey where tons of boulders were dumped along the coast covering several meters of living but fragile marine habitat so that another ugly hot cement road can be installed by the politician owner of a cement company. Native trees were unceremoniously cut down, and cement and coconut palms that provide almost no shade will replace some of them. Ecologists and apparently even ecological laws were ignored, since it is highly unlikely that SEMARNAT approved such an obvious ecocide. But at least one foreign real estate speculator is happy as is the mayor and his sycophants. Many of my local friends including affected property owners are extremely saddened but are afraid to speak out against a vengeful mayor. We enjoyed another absolutely picture-postcard-perfect day in Zihuatanejo and the Costa Grande. Visitors continue to get their money's worth, and locals continue to revel in our good fortune to be able to call this place home. We continue receiving a balmy tropical breeze from the northwest pushing some waves in our direction that local surfers are doubtless enjoying.
