Día del Sol OscureZIHdo
All kinds of superstitious rumors go around each time we have a solar eclipse. Some people are even afraid to go outside. This Monday was no exception. The streets and the beach in downtown Zihuatanejo were mostly empty during the eclipse. A few folks ventured out, mostly tourists, but it seemed that very few people were actually paying attention to the celestial event, except all the folks indoors watching it on TV or the internet. None of my iPhone photos turned out. Oh well. There are plenty of photos out there. The most interesting part to me was the coolness and the dullness of the normally bright colors. The eclipse brought the temperature down, and I was able to enjoy being in the noonday sun without being hot or worrying about the damage it does to my already sun-damaged skin. It was also odd to see schools of bait fish jumping in the bay like they do in the mornings and evenings. Once again, quite an interesting and memorable event. Probably the last solar eclipse I'll ever see.
The absence of tourism is a stark contrast to not just the past couple of weeks, but the past 5 months. Hardly anyone on the waterfront this evening. A few visitors are here, but nothing like it's been since around Día de Muertos when tourism began picking up for the season that's now ended.
The ocean temperature continues cold for us, and during our evening stroll this Monday it was so chilly Lupita had to wear a sweater, and I was craving a hot chocolate instead of a cold beer. Brrr!!!
Now's a great time to take advantage of off-season rates at local vacation lodgings! Our weather is still perfect and should remain so until around the middle of May.
Enjoy spectacular views from almost every part of this comfortable and spacious 1-bedroom multilevel condominium, Villa Vista.
