Here in Zihuatanejo's downtown waterfront it again got cool enough last night to sleep under a sheet. Extremely unusual for this date. We awoke to a sunny and bright morning with groups of tourists from buses arriving dragging along their suitcases and coolers for a day at the beach. While many visitors go to Las Gatas, Playa Principal was also extremely busy all day and well into the evening. A shame the municipal government only assigns two workers, an elderly gentleman and a younger woman with mental limitations, to clean the entire beach. They simply can't keep up with what people leave on the beach and what washes up. Same as they treated other beaches before declaring them Blue Flag and all of a sudden magically being able to assign sufficient able-bodied workers to clean those beaches. Since I arrived here in '89 this has been a perennial problem. It's not that we don't know HOW to clean all the beaches, it's simply a lack of will and commitment by our politicians, one administration after another, especially when they appear to be laser focused on padding their own pockets by sucking up their cut from public budgets. We can do better!

The bay water temperature briefly reached 26°C before dropping back down to 25°C. Uncharacteristically cool for this time of the year. A mar de fondo event also arrived this Saturday, pushing waves high up the beach and sending inattentive bathers tumbling. Still no rain in the forecast.

After missing school since Día de las Madres on May 10, students will be back in classes again this Monday.
