When we set out for our stroll this evening a large group of folkloric dancers were returning from performing at the Cancha Municipal. They'll also be performing this Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7:30.

It was very nice to see Jimi and Judy Mamou dining at Daniel's this evening during our stroll. Also very nice to see Chris and Yumitso (sp?) at La Porteña enjoying a fine meal. We also ran into the Mariachi Los Torcazos at the pier while they were awaiting the arrival of a lady on the Gran Jefe II to play Las Mañanitas for her.

And at Plaza del Artista the extremely talented young guitar player Eduardo was playing his smooth jazz. Please tip him and hire him if you have an event that needs some nice mellow music. He's at the plaza most evenings.

And this Friday evening the danzón dancers will also be at Plaza del Artista. They represent an old Zihuatanejo tradition, and the music they bring along to dance with is quite good, very enjoyable to listen to, and the dancers are fun to watch.

When I first arrived to Zihuatanejo 35 years ago, a new political party had just been formed by Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, son of former Presidente Lázaro Cárdenas, and he had barely lost the presidential election, allegedly by fraud, to Carlos Salinas de Gortari. That party was the PRD (Partido de la Revolución Democrática). Since they failed to garner even 3% of the vote during the recent election cycle, they will lose their registry as a political party. End of an era! The dynamics of Mexican politics offers many lessons for the USA which is hopelessly stuck in their extremely polarized and dysfunctional 2-party system.

Our weather was absolutely perfect today! The waves from the mar de fondo weren't large enough to be problematic for swimmers, and there were quite a few swimmers enjoy the warm clear water at Playa Principal today. Still no rain in our forecast, though it's predicted to rain in the sierra during the weekend. It actually got cool enough last night to have to pull the sheet up over me during the night. And almost no smoke in the air again this morning and during the day.

Tucked away in a lovely gardened property less than a block from the beach at Playa La Ropa is another one of our hidden jewels with a French flair named Casa Iguana. Six luxurious bungalow suites with A/C, cable TV, Internet connection, kitchenettes, and garden terraces with living and dining areas. An absolutely perfect place for relaxing and losing track of time.

Cada mañana este señor carga baldes de agua para mojar el arena en las áreas de las palapas para algunos restaurantes en Playa Principal.
