After observing the marionettes, researching their colours and some Mexican history I applied my imagination and turned the language into iambic pentameter and sonnet form. The theme for each sonnet was what would the puppet wish for if granted a wish. The third verse in each sonnet is inspired by the Blue Fairy’s words to Pinocchio:
“Be brave, be truthful and unselfish and you will be a real boy.” I enjoyed writing them; I hope you enjoyed reading them.

A clown with hair of bright blue hues
Bright blue pants and a bright red shirt
Sacrificial clown with the boo hoo blues
And wearing bright red shoes for blood and hurt

Hardly a muse, the clown is quite cursed
No mystery nor reason to wonder why
To inspire no one the strings reversed
Calliope is just a butterfly

Be charming
Be compelling
Be inspiring
And you will be a real Mexican Muse

The Spanish colonies lacked the Muses
Diego and Frieda needed no excuses
