We walk the beach very early at least 5 days a week on la Ropa end to end. Since the turtle nesting supposedly started May 15, we have only seen the tracks from 3 haul outs. It's early, but that is a very low number compared to the 7 previous years.

It sure is. The only two tracks I've seen all year weren't right. They only came a short ways out of the water. One nested, and the other didn't. The nest was too close to the water and the eggs rotted. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the lights that shine on the beach disorienting the turtles, a matter I've brought to the attention of Ecología over and over with zero response. We need public officials that take their jobs more seriously.

Yesterday the local tourism honchos were making a big whoop-tee-doo over an organization called "World Travel Awards" supposedly giving some award to Zihuatanejo for being a popular tourist destination. The mayor and his underlings were puffing out their chests and pretending it was some marvelous achievement of theirs. But if you visit the website for that organization, they have Mexico located in Central America, which right there undermines their legitimacy, and apparently all they do is "award" places, everyone gets one, sort of like TripAdvi$or, so that other people give the organization more publicity than they could ever pay for. The epitome of stupidity by local officials pretending this is something meaningful. But that's how propaganda works. Tell the lie enough times and people believe it.

And so much for the torrential rains predicted. It's turning into a beautiful sunny day and the storm is moving away quickly. I love it! Lucky us!
