Waves washed all the way up to the waterfront walkway along Playa Principal. A shame so much of the beach was paved over with cement. It appears to only worsen any erosion from the waves and the rain.

We enjoyed another absolutely picture-postcard-perfect day in Zihuatanejo! Tourists were enjoying themselves at the beaches, and the downtown merchants enjoyed some business.

Our family members in Mérida reported no problems from Beryl, just some light rains, but Cozumel will take a while to get back on its feet. Cancún appeared to have prepared itself well, and the sporting boats and small yachts they moored among the mangroves came through the storm mostly without problems. A reminder to always pay attention to the weather at this time of year and to be prepared for the worst.

Don't miss the screening of the documentary "Carey y el Hijo del Rey Neptuno" at 11:00 A.M. this Saturday at the Zihuatanejo Auditorium at the ayuntamiento next to Bodega Aurrerá. It's about the incredible work of don Ignacio "Nacho" Maciel to help save the Carey sea turtle from extinction by caring for their eggs at Isla Ixtapa, one of the very few places they regularly nest along the entire Pacific Coast. Bring a friend.

Villas Los Arcos at Playa La Ropa is a wonderful lodging I truly enjoy being able to recommend. As if La Ropa isn't beautiful enough, this exquisitely designed and decorated lodging is a place one feels instantly at home in. I wish folks would simply spend more time in lodgings like this instead of cutting down more of our trees and clearing more land to build more vacation and retirement homes.
