Handicap placards?

I want to use the handicap places at Sam's, as I'm using the elevator after shopping. I use a cane and had a problem recently with the down escalator.

Does anyone know how to get or if I need a handicap id or placard. I have one from the US that I guess I could use.

Someone said to just buy a sticker at a stationary store. True?
