The Monday night rain stopped before midnight, and it got cool enough to sleep under sheets. Tuesday morning was beautiful. There were some waves from the passing storm, but not too big in Zihuatanejo's bay. The port was opened back up to all vessels and immediately fishermen started heading out. But the trash that continues washing up on the beaches with each and every rain continues to break my heart. There's just no excuse for not fining people for littering. And the use of plastic bags thrown on the sidewalks to be picked up later where dogs and the elements often tear them apart is simply not tenable. My goodness, how long can the city authorities keep pretending the current model works? They ruin municipal vehicles trying to keep the city clean. Even though they pass by downtown about 6 times a day picking up garbage, a terrible unsustainable waste of resources, trash washes up on the beaches almost every day and especially after any rain. They have the right idea, but they're executing the wrong plan. I've lived in a few squeaky clean tourist resorts, but nowhere did they ever send a garbage truck to pick up garbage more than once a day. Usually only 2 or 3 times a week at the most except for wastebaskets in public parks and parking lots.

We were surprised to get a little more rain this Tuesday evening. Just enough to cool things down a bit and make everything smell clean and fresh. Gotta enjoy each rain now since it could be our last for quite a while.

Local shops and restaurants lamented the lack of business today. But we're seeing a few more faces of foreigners in town each day, and November is just around the corner. Also, for Día de Muertos schools will let out on Wednesday, if I heard correctly, so that we'll have an extra-long weekend. Hopefully we'll get more than just the tour bus crowd, though they are certainly welcome, too.

So right when the residents of La Ropa have been asking for permanent police presence at the mostly unused police module that was built years ago by the entrance to the huerta, the city tore it down today to put up an ATM machine without notifying any of the residents or neighbors. Orders from the Dinastía. The new administration isn't getting off to the best start with moves like this.
