Our perfect beach weather continues, just in time for the arrival of flights of snowbirds arriving from Canada and the USA. Our temperatures and humidity are on the high side, as always at the beginning and end of the rainy season, so be sure to stay hydrated. Hardly a cloud in sight again during the day until sunset when once again a thunderstorm could be seen to our south over the sierra in Petatlán.

Unfortunately, the violence continues along the Costa Grande of Guerrero, this time in Atoyac de Álvarez. So far one policeman is reported killed. Schools are closed in both Técpan and Atoyac because of the violence. I recommend avoiding driving to Acapulco for the time being. The police and military are doing a good job rounding up and disarming bad guys. But it seems as fast as they get disarmed, they acquire new firearms from the USA from where the firearms of last weekend's events were traced to.

Though I know things look celebratory for Día de Muertos, and that the city authorities, lots of bars and hotels have essentially turned it into a weeklong Halloween party, please remember that many locals with loved ones in our local burial grounds are not in a party mood but rather sad as they clean and prepare the gravesites and buy flowers to adorn them with. Some altars are being erected along the waterfront, so you may catch some glimpses into the personal lives of some local families. Please remember to be respectful.

Deborah's Restaurant in Ixtapa will be an excellent place to experience a traditional Halloween where local kids will be dressed in costumes visiting the restaurant and the shopping centers trick-or-treating Zihuatanejo style. They don't know how to say trick-or-treat or what it means, so they'll shout out ¡JALOWIN! instead. Deborah and her staff will also be in their Halloween costumes, so feel free to participate and to join in the fun.
