I received this email from the Consular of Mexico..
I hope it helps clear some confusion and concerns..
Good morning Mme Melville,

Thank you for contacting the consular agency in Acapulco.
Next Of Kin (NOK) must hire and pay FH who will provide services.
Documents will be needed for Funeral Home to proceed with the services and to obtain death certificate at the civil registry in Guerrero.

Deceased’s original long form birth certificate apostille and translated by an official translator (from Guerrero)
Original passport from deceased if available.
NOK’s original long form birth certificate.
If NOK is spouse, original marriage certificate apostille and translated by an official translator (from Guerrero). Please note that common-law partners are not recognized as a valid NOK by the local authorities and will need a POA from a direct NOK)
ID from NOK
If NOK is not on site, a POA for FH and documents mentioned above should be sent by FEDEX or DHL to FH.
