:anchor: This Saturday we celebrate the 199th commemoration of Día de la Armada de México. These hard-working men and women help keep us safe and help our communities when we need it. My wife and I are extremely grateful for their presence here in Zihuatanejo, and we hope you are, too.

Saturday was another hot and humid day. A little rain late this Saturday afternoon surprised people in Coacoyul. There are still rain clouds in the region again this evening, so there's a chance for some more.

My day started similarly to yesterday's. Once again I came across disoriented sea turtle hatchlings on Playa Municipal as well as some dead ones. Apparently they'd hatched in the middle of the beach soccer area, and because of all the deep footprints gouging the sand and because of the glaring bright lights, many of them once again wandered lost and away from the direction of the ocean, struggling to move just a few meters. Since they were still struggling after the sun rose, birds started feeding on them. I was with our dog Blue, and I kept trying to reach them before the birds. I was surprised no one else seemed to notice them. I got a couple of tourists to take one from me through the fence around the soccer area, and of course the first thing they did was start posing for selfies with it, so I didn't ask any more tourists for help with any of the other ones I found. The last one I rescued and got to the water had a terrible time getting past the surf, and even though Lupita and I tried to toss it past the waves a few times, it kept coming back towards the beach. I watched over it for around a half an hour before I finally lost sight of it. I think it drowned from exhaustion. So I left the beach saddened about the dead sea turtle hatchlings. I was also furious with the municipal government for putting their soccer area on the beach at this time of year when so many sea turtle nests are still hatching, and for their insistence on leaving those damned bright lights on all night.

This Saturday evening there was a cultural celebration called a "Fandango" at the pier right after sunset. A fun celebration with lots of music and dancing. I hope some of you were able to enjoy it.

According to the state government's cifras alegres, Guerrero had over 70% tourist occupancy this Saturday. While we can see quite a few visitors in town, most of them haven't been doing much business with local merchants, and they seem to bring all their food and drinks with them, so the high numbers don't necessarily translate into prosperity for most of us here.
