While too many other places are suffering calamitous weather, folks in Zihuatanejo slept comfortably Wednesday night with their windows open and a fan on low. Beautifully painted skies greeted us again this morning, and locals and visitors were out early enjoying the cool morning, some exercising, others sitting sipping coffee, and others like me taking their dogs out to walk. The ocean was so calm there were barely any waves. Pacific. And the day was nothing less than perfect. Sunny skies, light breeze, warm weather, people smiling everywhere for no apparent reason. Happy.

Local merchants continue claiming there are more Canadians than Statesiders. No me consta, but though the tourist season appears to be getting off to a slow start, it seems there are more extranjeros with each passing day. We hope they continue arriving. So many local businesses count on their yearly patronage. Daniel's, La Porteña and La Sirena Gorda were all doing a brisk business this evening, full of folks who appeared to be extranjeros. Smiling. Happy. Relaxed. ¡Bienvenidos!

The after-vacation back-to-class process seems not to have gone as planned this week, with many parents extending their vacations and promising school officials that their children would be back in school next Monday. Only in Mexico!
