Except for the madness and sadness on the news about other parts of the world, it's difficult to distinguish one day from another here in Zihuatanejo. Cool, refreshing mornings, barely a wisp of clouds in the sky, warmth, sunshine, breeze, the sound of the waves, the scent of the ocean mixed with wood-smoke from local kitchens, rain clouds over the sierra later in the day, greet friends, neighbors and strangers on the streets and waterfront. And of course, our wonderful fresh and delicious food. Fresh coffee from Guerrero to start the day, licuado de mango with breakfast, a tequila before la comida, agua fresca, tortillas and frijoles with la comida, siesta, stroll during a colorful sunset, cerveza, a light cena. A typical Mexican day in the life. Slow-paced. Delicious. Relaxing. Rewarding.

Enjoying all this with the love of my life leaves me feeling like the luckiest Gringo in Mexico.

One of the consequences of the good-hearted people who donate their money to help build dozens of tiny schools for children of whom they believe to be disadvantaged locals, besides the loss of the ecological zones on our hillsides, is that they build schools for which there is no money to operate and pay teachers' salaries. Local teachers have been on strike for over a week now for numerous reasons including lack of pay, once again. This is such a frequent occurrence each school year that our children don't receive the education they need. For this reason, instead of enriching owners of cement companies, I endorse Niños Adelante, a scholarship program to help enrich students academically. I hope you'll consider donating to them.

A favorite location for many visitors, Amor del Sol located overlooking Playa La Madera is an extremely comfortable and nicely appointed condominium that offers from 1 to 3 bedrooms (only pay for what you need!). The complex has a pool, but the ocean at La Madera is often calm enough for easy swimming.

Hace siete años Playa Principal en Zihuatanejo solía tener hermosas palmeras altas y mucha más playa para disfrutar. Es una lástima que perdimos tanta belleza a la avaricia desmesurada.
