Día de la ExpropiaZIHón Petrolera
Some warm weather has parked itself over our part of Mexico, but it still got cool enough to sleep under the covers Monday night. Felt great to get out early and walk the beach. The bay was full of schools of fish this morning, but the fishermen were racing around like crazy in their pangas frustrated because the water is so clear that the fish see them toss their nets and they disperse, so the fishermen are coming up with mostly empty nets. A good time to go snorkeling!
Also, if I could ask a favor of everyone. Every single day I pick up as much plastic from the beach as I can without obsessing (or maybe I already am). Mostly small pieces of cellophane, bottle tops, rubber bands, plastic eating utensils, cups, bottles, broken pieces of plastic of all types. The ocean is trying to reject all this crap, but I notice no one seems to pay any attention to it, much less remove it. But I'm unable to walk past it without picking it up, even though some days I swear that's what I'm going to do. If nothing else I try to at least remove it from the water's edge, but I usually place it in a small plastic bag that I keep in my pocket for my dog. But I need help. If everyone pitched in a little, I think it would make a noticeable difference on local beaches. Thank you.
Also, I was mistaken about the date for the end of whale watching season. It's not the 15th but the 20th of March. And there continue to be numerous sightings daily by everyone who goes out on a daily basis that I've spoken with.

It looks like many of our visitors from abroad have left, though there are still quite a few around. The downtown shops and restaurants haven't been getting as much of their business lately as they had just a couple of weeks ago. Slowly but surely our "tourist season" comes to an end. The local and state tourism officials make lots of noises about the body count with their cifras alegres, but for the most part the folks who stay in Ixtapa's all-included hotels don't represent much income for locals since they rarely if ever leave the hotel to shop or eat. And especially Ixtapa's restaurants are suffering.
For a peaceful and stress-free vacation getaway take a look at Casa Delfín Sonriente. A spacious and verdant 6-bedroom private beachfront villa with a pool on Playa Troncones that can be rented in its entirety or as individual suites and bungalows by the day or by the week. There's an outdoor BBQ area and areas for various outdoor activities. Any closer to paradise would be hard to get.
