We enjoyed a cool Thursday morning for the first day of spring. And it turned into another picture-postcard-perfect day with clear skies, a light breeze, and mild temperatures. Unfortunately, there were few visitors out and on the beaches to enjoy it. Hopefully we'll get some visitors for the weekend besides the autobuseros.

After earlier saying it was cancelled as it was last year, the mayor of Petatlán now says the Feria de Semana Santa is a GO! Excellent news! It is usually a fun event, a huge fair that seems to take over much of the downtown area with shows, rides, a rodeo, live music, a flea market, and lots of delicious foods and drinks. Find dates and details on my Community Notices & Events page. Once more details about the shows and events are made public, I'll get them posted, too.

Okay, NOW the whale watching season is officially over. I was off by a few days. But there are always a few stragglers who take their time heading back north, so it's possible to still spot them if you're out on the water.

The clear water continues, but the temperature is falling. It appears to be cooler in some patches and warmer in others. It's been measured in some places at 25.6°C and up to 27°C in others. I expect we'll start seeing more algae soon as water from the cooler depths reaches the more sunlit surface where the algae will produce blooms, possibly developing into red tide as is common at this time of year, just in time for Semana Santa in a few weeks.

Casa Tropicana is a nice little hideaway in Troncones located on the street across from the beach within easy walking of the village shops and restaurants.
