The comfortably cool mornings continue. Time to break out the blanket! But as soon as the sun breaks over the hill, things warm up quickly and life returns to the streets and beaches.
Though the downtown beach was full of beachgoers well past sunset on Friday, this Saturday morning there wasn't anywhere near the amount of trash that we often see on the beach from the folks who sit and drink all night on the beach leaving cans, cups, bottles and all sorts of plastic trash. I only picked up one coffee cup with its plastic top, a thin straw used for spraying oil or compressed air, and a couple of plastic bottle caps this morning. The beach looked good. Hope to find the same or less tomorrow morning. The little pieces of plastic are the ones I especially look out for since they're the ones closest to entering the food chain by being swallowed up by something. I hope everyone will make it a habit to also pick up plastic from the beach, especially little pieces near the water's edge.
This Saturday our beaches were again quite busy, and this evening while we were at the pier we saw water taxis and charter boats still returning full of passengers well past sunset, everyone smiling and enjoying themselves. THAT'S what Zihuatanejo is all about!
Today was a decent day for many local businesses. Many small shops were enjoying some sales, and many of my charter captain friends had one or two charters for the day. It's good to see so many middle-class Mexicans finding us who have some purchasing power. We really need them to keep returning and to tell their family and friends good things about us, same as with all of you reading here. Word of mouth remains our best advertising. The waterfront restaurants weren't that busy this evening, except for La Porteña, but there were several tables of people dining at most of them except for the former La Canaima, a place that always seems to be sala'o no matter what name they operate under.
If you're looking for an affordable vacation rental with a great location, take a look at Casa Contenta at La Ceiba complex. A comfortable vacation lodging located a block from the beach in Colonia La Madera and near many excellent restaurants. Enjoy your vacation in this 2-bedroom condo with a spacious living/dining area and a balcony overlooking a garden and pool.

Hubo un poco de bruma en el aire durante la madrugada en la bahía de Zihuatanejo.
