It turns out the whale gave birth to her calf here in Zihuatanejo's bay! So the baby is a Zihuatanejense. Hopefully it will survive to return to visit us someday. They left either last night or early this Sunday. The Marina and the Capitanía del Puerto did a commendable job trying to keep them safe from being harassed and stressed. Hopefully they will develop better protocols for any similar events in the future. I believe this is the first time since I've lived here that a baby whale was born inside our bay. Others of my friends here say the same thing, so it's certainly a rare event. Lucky us to witness it!

Today was another day of tropical breezes keeping the temperatures mild under a clear sky. We awoke to another cool morning, but the sun quickly warmed things up in downtown Zihuatanejo after it rose above the hill. The water temperature remains comfortable in the bay at between 26.4 and 27.3°C, a tad on the cool side at times which feels refreshing. The waves kicked up a little today to around 1.5 meters in Ixtapa's Playa El Palmar and Troncones, a little less at Las Gatas.

Not as many day trippers this weekend as last weekend, but the book fair at the Cancha Municipal had a lot of people, and so did Daniel's Restaurant and La Porteña.
