Although the Capitanía de Puerto announced the closing of Zihuatanejo Bay to small craft at 8:00 AM this Friday morning, water taxis continued to operate all day to Playa Las Gatas without incident or risk. It was a mostly cloudy but otherwise relatively calm day in the bay. Since I didn't see any boat activity on the webcam before sunset, it looks like Playa Linda's pier remained closed, however the waves don't appear to be high there yet. Maybe everyone left the island early when it began to sprinkle a short while ago.

As Tormenta Tropical Dalila passes by, we can expect sustained tropical storm winds of around 65 km/h for several hours late into Friday night and early Saturday morning. Waves along the open coast could reach from 3 to 4 meters. Hunker down, keep a lantern or candles handy, hope the lights stay on, check your patio and rooftop for things that might blow away. While there aren't many tourists here, I did see groups of what appear to be middle-class Mexicans walking along the Paseo del Pescador and dining in some of its restaurants this evening. And frankly I'm surprised to see anyone still around who looks like a Statesider or Canadian, but there appears to be quite a few. I guess I got used to being one of the very few year-round Gringo residents for so many years since I never had to cross the border to renew anything since over 3½ decades ago.
