La AusenZIHa de los Autobuseros
Saturday evening was warm and humid with hardly any breeze, a reminder that we're in the season of La Canícula when the air often gets stagnant and hazy, as it did this Sunday. There may have been a little sprinkle of rain overnight, but just barely. Sunday started off bright and sunny, and though our temperatures remain relatively mild, the humidity and lack of breeze make it feel warmer. This is pretty much what to expect for most of the rest of July and August. We might get some late afternoon and evening rain, especially from passing tropical waves. Our only relief from the repetitious hot and humid summer weather of La Canícula.
The arrival of visitors was much more noticeable this Sunday. Unfortunately, their arrival doesn't always mean increased sales for local merchants. But all along Playa Principal groups of families and friends were enjoying the lovely clear water and sunny skies, some with their own chairs and picnic tables, and most with coolers. The mar de fondo seemed to dissipate this Sunday for the most part. The waves just weren't very big. But another mar de fondo event is expected in the next couple of days.
It's been several days since I've seen any groups of people arriving and dragging their suitcases and coolers now that buses aren't allowed to park near Plaza Kioto. I'd gotten so used to them over the years passing in front of our home that their absence really stands out at this time of year when in the past there would be huge groups of people arriving early and trying to find their lodging or else waiting nearby until the water taxis started operating to take them over to Playa Las Gatas. The streets now seem empty weekend mornings without them.
