After an anxious evening awaiting a tsunami, during the early morning hours the winds picked up blowing sand from the beach and overturning beach furniture and photo-props, so around 5:30 or so when I looked out the window for any signs of the tsunami I only saw the storm. But several hours later after the port was reopened to navigation, folks started noticing the current at the entrance to Laguna Las Salinas was getting stronger, sucking water out of the lagoon. Over and over for hours the process repeated itself, finally getting so strong in the late afternoon that it sank 5 of the pangas tied up in the lagoon. I posted video of the pangas as they sank on my Facebook page.

Lupita and I went to the bridge crossing the channel into the lagoon a little after 7PM and there was still quite a bit of current, not as strong as earlier, but still strong. I was so surprised that I made a video that you can see here: https://youtu.be/-MXqaL1_VyA

The Mexican Navy issued a warning that the effects of the tsunami would continue causing dangerous currents for 72 hours. On the beaches it was odd watching the water slowly rise and fall, almost imperceptibly, except that every 10 minutes or so it would reach what looked like a high tide line on the beach then recede to a low point leaving a large area of the beach wet. Over and over. The only danger appears to be where there are channels and inlets. On the beaches the currents didn't seem to pose any danger to bathers.

The overnight rain brought the temperatures down significantly, and the morning felt cool and refreshing. PERFECT by local standards. Locals I encountered at dawn were all commenting and grinning like kids in a playhouse. Even though the sun came out later, it never got hot during the day, at least not in our part of town. And it promises to be another night of excellent sleeping weather.
