ZIHgue La Canícula
A partly cloudy Sunday morning allowed the evening's relative coolness to linger a little longer before we were reminded we're in the peak of La Canícula. The humidity and heat combined with a scant breeze to make the day feel hotter than it was. But it didn't seem to bother beachgoers, many who appeared to have brought sufficient refreshments to keep themselves... refreshed.
The waves seem to have waned since yesterday, and swimmers didn't seem to be bothered by the small waves in Zihuatanejo's bay today. We should see larger waves along our coast this Thursday from the passing of a tropical depression.
Numbers of visitors were noticeably down this Sunday, though there continue to be crowds. Unfortunately, most of our visitors make very few local purchases and mostly don't represent much of a benefit to the local economy. The government wants us to believe there's such a thing as sustainable tourism, but as someone who's lived in over half a dozen tourist communities for most of the past half century, I know there's no such thing. If we don't target our preferred visitors better we're going to kill the goose with the golden egg. The municipal government thinks ripping up all the cement in the shopping centers in Ixtapa and replacing it with new cement resembling what they've done in Zihuatanejo will improve tourism. I've never known a single person who visited Zihuatanejo or Ixtapa because of its cement. Actually quite the opposite. But I know why they want to pour more cement.
There's an enchanting small boutique hotel with a pool located just a few steps from the beach at Playa La Ropa named Hotel Villas Las Azucenas. They offer a luxurious Penthouse; 3 Master Suites with an ocean view, mini-pool and kitchenette; 8 Suites with kitchenettes; 5 Junior Suites with kitchenettes; and 5 Standard Rooms without kitchenettes. Relaxation guaranteed!

Una tormenta impresionante pasó justo frente a la bahía de Zihuatanejo esta mañana pero apenas recibimos una breve llovizna.
