¡DISCRIMINACIÓN!

by ZihuaRob ⌂ @, Zihuatanejo, México, Tuesday, August 05, 2025, 18:31 (458 days ago) @ Talley Ho

We paddle our SUP's most mornings, early, leaving from the alley between Villa Mexicana and The Thompson. We return between 8:30 and 9, before it's very crowded.

When the showers have water, we rinse ourselves and our boards before storing them in our bodega in the alley.

Today, a woman from ecologia told us that the showers are only for people. Worse part??? We were conversing with a man from Guanajuato, in English, he instigated the conversation. The woman from ecologia spoke to him in Spanish and asked him to tell us we couldn't use the showers with our boards. He looked at her and said, "They LIVE here! Speak Spanish, too."

As we walked away, I turned to my sweetie and said that I would continue to rinse myself and my board anyway. His response???

Do you want to be put in a choke hold, cuffed and arrested? Excellent point.

What about all the visitors who rinse off their beach inflatables, towels, chairs? Or is this only for gringos?

This is DISCRIMINATION, and I'm going to say it appears to be only against GRINGOS.

You are TAXPAYING RESIDENTS. You have MORE right than any visitor to use the phuqing PUBLIC SHOWER. This is intolerable, but it fits a pattern of the current municipal administration, which is actually a continuance of the past one.

Is there a sign there that says the showers are NOT for locals or EXCLUSIVELY for visitors? No, because that would be illegal.

This is discrimination against Gringos.

You should insist on speaking with Israel Campos or really anyone higher up than these toadies who likely only have their jobs because they supported the political candidate in power and went to their rallies, not because they possess any particular qualifications. Find out if it was actual POLICY or just the personal prejudice of the Ecología toady. Because if it's POLICY, then I think the rest of us who live here have a right to know. The stupid Blue Flag policies already keep most locals from going to La Ropa like we used to. As a community, we already voted AGAINST the stupid Blue Flag policy. Not allowing locals to use the PUBLIC FACILITIES at La Ropa would bring about quite a public outcry, especially with "gentrification" being such a hot topic in Mexico lately. Except in this case it's due to the MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT, not foreigners.
