I have to thank the municipal government for not using leaf blowers at 6am this morning to clean the Paseo del Pescador for an organized running event as they usually do. They may have read my comments the other day asking them not to, for which my family and I as well as our neighbors and visitors are all surely grateful. B-)

While there appears to have been high numbers of visitors in town today, sales by local merchants and restaurants remain slow. With only 2 weeks of summer vacation left, even though it was a longer vacation period than normal, it's been extremely disappointing for locals. Receiving more visitors doesn't automatically translate into more local prosperity, and our current tourism is unsustainable. Unfortunately local, state and federal tourism "authorities" seem to be in a perpetual state of either denial or fantasy, pretending their trips to Spain every year are fruitful. Targeted marketing may be harder work, but it's the only way to attract visitors with the purchasing power we need for the community to prosper instead of just a few hotels and restaurants. Mass marketing ain't cutting it.

There have been two carjacking incidents on the highway through La Unión this past week, one involving a local resident foreigner, the other a visitor. PLEASE be vigilant and try to drive in convoy fashion. I wish I didn't have to keep reporting these incidents, but the government of La Unión appears extremely derelict in their duties.

Hardly a cloud in the sky all day until this evening. No rain in the forecast for this Saturday, but Sunday evening there's a slight chance.

How odd to see weather reports from places in the States where temperatures are warmer in many places than they are here. And the science deniers continue denying. As fast as Erin went from tropical storm to a Cat 5 hurricane, you'd think they'd start getting the picture. As the busiest part of the hurricane season gets underway along our coast, you can bet your bippy locals aren't denying the science along the Costa Grande. Not after Otis and John. While there is some rain in our local forecast for the next several days, there are no tropical disturbances, so we're grateful for that. However, in Mexico City they're getting what they describe as a once-every-500-years rain. Almost daily for weeks they've been receiving rains much stronger than they're accustomed to. The great lakes of Tenochtitlan, that just celebrated 700 years since its founding, want to return. :-o

Amenities include a swimming pool, a wading pool for children, Wi-fi, air conditioning, a fully-equipped kitchen, and an outdoor grill. A fun and relaxing place to spend a vacation with family and friends.
