Una SugerenZIHa de Frescura
Amazingly, this Friday morning was a couple of degrees cooler than the previous days, making a noticeable difference. The morning wasn't exactly cool. but it was coolish. Our morning walk felt great and I wasn't sweating buckets when we returned as I'd been the previous days. It looked like it was going to rain this morning, but it never did. Clouds hung around most of the day, but the only storm clouds were in the distance. Some out to sea, others in the sierra.
A few more visitors showed up this Friday. Not a lot, and sales remained slow, but hopefully some businesses and services benefitted. This is the time of year when locals have to tighten our belts and cut our costs, made harder by the increased use of electricity trying to stay cool during the higher temperatures.
The drivers of taxis and buses listened to the Zihuatanejo community! They ARE NOT RAISING THEIR PRICES AT THIS TIME. At least that's the announcement they made. And no new official rates have been published by them. However, I've heard of a few lone wolves apparently not following the lead of the union leaders. However, there has been no officially authorized rate hike yet locally even though the state has authorized them to do so. Whether drivers in outlying communities play by the same rules is up to them, but at least for the time being local fares for public transportation will remain unchanged thanks to the will of our LOCAL drivers. I'll be letting them know that they're very much appreciated for siding with the public on this.
Remember, the Eco-Tianguis "Sanka" happens every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:40 p.m. in the small plaza in front of the Vicente Guerrero school, across the street from the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande in downtown Zihuatanejo by the waterfront where La Boquita canal runs into the bay. Besides wonderful handcrafts, they feature a variety of homegrown produce, fresh foods including pastries, breads and tamales, fresh coffee, juices and mezcal.

If you enjoy learning about and experiencing some of our local flora and fauna, El Refugio de Potosí is a center for wildlife conservation and environmental education. Among its attractions, it features a fully reconstructed sperm whale skeleton (the only one in Mexico), an observation tower, a wheelchair accessible footpath for observing local flora and fauna, and a butterfly pavilion. Located near the beach on the road to Barra de Potosí. Perfect for the entire family. (click to enlarge image)
