La DisipaZIHón de Boris
Monday night like most people in our region we were expecting the arrival of rains and winds associated with Tropical Storm Boris. But it was a peaceful and uneventful night. It barely sprinkled as the sun came up, so light that we took our morning stroll during which the rain stopped altogether. And that was the end of it. No more rain. No wind. The clouds began to dissipate, and by the afternoon the sun was peeking out here and there.
The port of Zihuatanejo reopened to all boat traffic, and the pier at Playa Linda also reopened, but there were almost no visitors around. It would've been a perfect day for la comida at Playa Las Gatas or Isla Ixtapa.
The waterfront restaurants were again mostly empty this evening. Working and pensioned locals are saving their money, and there just aren't that many visitors around with money to spend dining out.
With the beginning of the World Cup coming this Thursday as Mexico and South Africa hold the first match at el Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, federal workers and schools are being given the day off. This is an exciting time for Mexico to be hosting the Copa Mundial for the third time, the first country to do so. Many of us think the USA shouldn't be hosting any matches at all due to their implementation of discriminatory practices against many African and Middle Eastern teams, personnel and fans. Most fans from Iran and Morocco have been denied entry to the USA even though they have tickets. Africa's most qualified referee was denied a visa, so he loses a whole year's pay and the prestige of refereeing World Cup matches. Several teams have been subjected to cavity searches, and fans detained, harassed and denied entry because they don't worship the Orange Turd on their social media. Absolutely inexcusable, disgusting and unforgivable!
Boris didn't cause near as much damage as people were prepared for. While there were some places that got heavy rains, most places didn't, even though they were predicted. Here the lack of rain from the storm was actually a big disappointment. The seas are calming down a bit, and by Friday the waves should only be about 2 meters high along the open coast and expected to remain so through at least the middle of next week. While rain remains in the daily forecast, it looks like we're in for more excellent weather and plenty of sunshine for the rest week. Any rains are expected to be brief and minimal.

La tormenta tropical Boris pierde fuerza y el sol empieza a salir en Zihuatanejo este martes. Un buque de la Armada ancló en nuestra bahía hoy.
