Días DifíZIHles de Mucho Calor

The hours of comfortable temperatures are very few. The elevated heat and humidity this Saturday continue to keep people either indoors or moving slowly while outdoors, except of course our beachgoing visitors who are making the most of their time here. It's sad to see the folks of the Mercado Municipal still stuck in makeshift stalls in the streets with no breeze where the heat is truly punishing. They all thought they'd be under a new roof in a couple of months, but that was almost 7 months ago. They are NOT happy with the municipal government and its ridiculously slow progress. Maybe they're trying to do too many projects at once.

The chances of rain are looking good for the next 2 or 3 days. Hopefully we won't get any deluges that cause flooding. A nice long light rain would be perfect. Keeping fingers crossed.

Visitors continue trickling in, but it still doesn't look like a normal summer vacation season. Things remain extremely slow. Maybe next week. Has anyone actually seen any publicity for Zihuatanejo anywhere? That may have something to do with it. That and the loss of so much of Zihuatanejo's character, part of its attraction.

I frequently see people from other parts of Mexico posting on social media looking for advice about moving here and opening a business, mostly restaurants, and locals reply with taunts and laughter if not more negative replies. We used to never see discourteous responses like that, but they're not exactly wrong either. A long-running local joke among people of my generation is that the second biggest business in Zihuatanejo is closing a restaurant. ;-)
