If only everyone picked up at least a little instead of acting like it's normal and ignoring it or leaving it for the beach sweepers.

Not trying to earn a medal, but for what it is worth, whenever I go into the water, when I exit, I must remove at least one piece of plastic or other man-made item that does not belong in the ocean. Although sometimes it feels like a futile gesture, it reminds me of the The Star Thrower, also referred to as The Starfish Story. A man is watching a boy throwing stranded starfish back into the ocean. The man remarks that there are miles of beach and countless starfish, so the boy's efforts can't possibly make a difference. The boy picks up a single starfish, throws it into the waves, and replies, "It made a difference for that one."

I know. Kinda' hokey, but sincere.
