Last night was wonderful sleeping weather with cool temperatures around 22°C and on-and-off light rain. All day this Sunday the temperature was cool, and the sky remained overcast. It sprinkled sporadically, but it didn't seem to bother our visitors who made the best of it. This Sunday evening the intermittent rains seem to have delayed the Domingo Cultural event at the Cancha Municipal. Lots of pretty girls dressed up in traditional clothing looked like they were waiting to dance.

The pier entrance is once again a muddy disaster zone, and after over 6 months, there still isn't any lighting at the pier. There's no excuse for such a lack of respect for the pier's users and visitors, especially the captains who must use it for work. The municipal government can put lighting instantly anywhere it wants for all the mayor's special events, but after 6 months it still can't get electricity to the pier?

Five years ago today we got slammed by Hurricane Rick, and I spent around 4 hours during the wee hours before dawn having to hold our wooden window shutters closed since the lock didn't hold up. It literally peeled the paint off of buildings, tore roofs off and tumped over a lot of trees. A night I'll never forget and hope to never experience anything like it again.

The current ETA for the tall ship Cuauhtémoc is noon on October 31, 2 days later than previously expected, because of Vance, which has been downgraded to a tropical storm. Gee, I wonder what will happen to all the tickets glommed up by the mostly municipal government insiders who got them online in a less-than-10-minute window of opportunity over a week before the public thought they would be available?

The good news is, as I expected and commented several weeks ago, all the storms have cooled the ocean in front of our coast, so now they don't have the fuel they need to grow like they'd been doing. If there are any more storms, it's unlikely we'll have an Otis-like storm that grows rapidly in front of us. The bad news is this could be the end of our rainy season. And it simply hasn't rained as much as we needed, especially in the sierra where lack of rain has kept corn crops from growing.

The bocote trees continue blooming on our hillsides. A yearly natural spectacle associated with Día de Muertos.

A place where stress simply doesn't factor into one's daily routine. (click to enlarge image)
