One night in zihua

Last week I had a group of friends from Minnesota staying out at Playa Mahajua for a week. (About 5 minutes further down the road from Troncones) The taxis wouldn't go, not even in the daytime. One agreed to go in the day in an unmarked car for 2000 pesos. We arranged a combi for my friends for 1000 pesos (try the combi lot beside the cinco de mayo mercado). I went out there one night taking the La Union bus to the Troncones turnoff for 20 pesos. The bus returning to Zihua picked me up 10 seconds later for free to take me half a kilometer to the road entering troncones. I waited another 20 seconds and hitched a ride to Troncones and Javier, the guy who picked me up, insisted on taking me the remainder of the way. He didn't want to take any money for me but I gave him 20 pesos, as he took me about 5 minutes past his house. So a white boy can get there unscathed travelling alone at night for cheaper than it costs to get from Zihua to Ixtapa in the daytime in a taxi.

We had bonfires every night on the beach within view of the town and not one person bothered anyone all week. Everyone had a good time and are sure to return. They went the night before I got there to a restaurant on the beach and my buddy who comes 3 times a year here said he had the best hospitality EVER in Mexico, the owner of the restaurant provided 2 bottles of tequila on the house, and one of the servers joined us on the beach several nights.

NO, taxis can't go out of their work area. YES, Troncones is safe. How do people get things so twisted in their head? Just because a taxi won't go there doesn't make it dangerous! Even if cartel have taken over Troncones they are not there to scare the money away! Think about it!
