Driving to Zihua from Los Mochis or DF

Here are our approximate times in a motorhome towing a car:

Los Mochis to Mazatlan: 6 hours

Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta: 10 to 12 or 14 hours depending on the route (Quota via Tepic or via Villa Hidalgo, San Blas etc on the libre)

Puerto Vallarta to Melaque: 4 hours

Melaque to Zihuatanejo 11 hours.

OR:

Mazatlan to Guadalajara in a long day. (we haven't done this but have done parts of it; wouldn,t like to guess a time but could done in a day.

Guadalajara to Zihuatanejo could also be done in a day.

Important note:

If you are coming down the coast road (200) ie from Melaque to Zih, as you approach Lazaro Cardenas from the north there is a sign that indicates an exit for Zihuatanejo. DO NOT TAKE THIS ROAD. It takes you inland and a big detour over the dam and onto the libre south of the city. There is no advantage to this route. It is almost impossible to get back onto the quota south of Lazaro. Go straight ahead onto town on a divided road and make a slight left at a traffic light (well signed for once: just don't turn right here unless you really want to visit downtown Lazaro!) which will have you out of town and onto the cuota in no time. Much faster and just as scenic.

Caution: it has been a few years since we came south this way, the Zihua sign may have changed. We came north this year.
