Even though out of an abundance of precaution (and because most of the roads in the state are in such terrible condition due to lack of maintenance on top of the rains) all the schools are closed, the sun keeps peeking through the clouds between intermittent light rains and things are fairly normal in downtown Zihuatanejo. We had a bit of blustery winds along with some moderate rains last evening, but the winds eventually died down and the rains remained mostly light. We could even the sound of the ocean change as it calmed down during the course of the night. This morning it looks like sea turtles everywhere took advantage of the calmer waves to explore the beaches and lay their eggs. Too bad so much of our beach within the bay has been paved over because the turtles can no longer find the high and dry ground they need for their eggs, so they make do where they can meaning that often their eggs are washed away by successive storms (that is if they are stolen by poachers or eaten by all the roving dogs). Fortunately the Marinos do what they can to rescue the turtle eggs they can get to.

The ocean actually appeared calm within Zihuatanejo Bay this morning!

Turtle tracks were everywhere all up and down the beach.

The streets only had a little water on them but otherwise everything looked fine downtown, though hardly anyone was out and about this morning.
