Policia Estatal Acreditable

I was aware of your previous posts and of the Mexican government's attempts to improve policing and rout out corruption. I read somewhere that, nationally, 43,000 police officers had failed the "confidence" test. Clearly they've got their work cut out.
I was struck by the decal on the police vehicles. We're used to the old "Serve and Protect" kind of thing, but advertising that police had passed their tests was a new one on me.

Those were mostly municipal police who were given a chance to redeem themselves through retraining, yet most were either retired or simply shown the door.

The new police here deserve a chance. They are doing a thankless job, yet if you've followed the events of the past couple of months in Chilpancingo and elsewhere you'll see they've mostly been sitting ducks for abuse by angry violent ignorant mobs and anarchists. The government isn't allowing them to do their jobs properly, and lots of us being affected by the angry mobs closing the highway are getting fed up with the soft approach and tolerance of violence and abuse by the state and federal governments. Now different factions of "protesters" are fighting among themselves over who gets to control the toll booths on the Mexico-Acapulco toll road in order to extort the travellers because the police are doing nothing to stop them, though the "protesters" have been warned by the police that next Monday all blockades and toll booth takeovers will be stopped as the official national vacation period begins for Christmas and New Years. Madness!
