Isla Holbox
Locahermanas dos here. We spent three weeks on Isla Holbox starting January 8 this season. You'll find an entirely different culture than Zihua. It's not a real island, but a large sand bar according to locals. The water is very shallow and at low tide you can walk the sand bars for miles and miles. The winds are string and the beach...it's all one long beach, is often densely covered with seaweed...so be prepared for a sort of mangrove odor. ( we're told this is mainly when there are storms...which there were in January)What you have on the island is basically restaurants, bars, a few little shops. You can rent bikes or golf carts to get around, but you can also walk, anywhere, and the taxis are golf carts. There's also kayaking and a school for kit surfing. Fishing at this time is mainly for smaller catch but giant tarpon season starts in April. We stayed at Villas Delfines...palapa style rooms. Check them out on trip advisor.. Bring mosquito repellant and sun screen. And cash. There is one cajero automatically only, and a western union office. You'll find prices a bit high. Whale shark viewing doesn't start until April.
