Sail boats

Three directions. North, south or west.
Most will start clearing out shortly after Guitarfest. All looking to be out of hurricane season which can begin in May.
NORTH: Full time cruisers will likely be heading up into the Sea of Cortez where it is generally safe for the summer although this past summer saw several dangerous storms find their way into the Sea. Others, especially those having land homes in USA or Canada, may put their boats away in PV or Mazatlan marinas for the summer.
SOUTH: many will be heading south typically to El Salvador, Panama or Ecuador where they are safe from the hurricanes which typically form off Mexico's Tuantapec before moving NW along our coast.
WEST: Quite a few cruisers will begin their passage west through the South Pacific. Zihuatanejo is not a favored place to depart for this trip because of a large dead air section at the beginning. Most west bounders favor jumping off from PV, which is a lot further west than ZIHUA, or from Panama which is closer to the equator with favorable winds from the southeast.

After a few years of sailing along the Pacific coast of Mexico, Central and South America we sailed west from Ecuador and spent a several years exploring the South Pacific before heading north to Hawaii. We now spend summers sailing around the Hawaii Islands and winters at our home in Zihua.
