I had the exact opposite experience with Europcar; but had a very similar experience with Dollar.

Last April I rented from Dollar for one week; went out to Troncones for part of the time and then had plans to go to Patzcuaro. The car was leaking coolant and if I was just staying in Troncones I wouldn't have minded, there was a hose in the parking lot where I was staying but I didn't want to get stranded on the way or in Patzcuaro. I called Dollar up and they brought me a replacement out to Troncones. My credit card also covered the CDW and had no issues will Dollar.
