Where has the week gone???
Just got back to my hotel after another fantastic concert at Guitarfest on the beach at La Madera and realized I'm half way through my vacations. It has gone so fast and the last couple days have been a blur. I even managed to miss the fundraiser dinner tonight for the Mexican Red Cross but made a donation directly instead. Still, I wish I would have caught that 3 course meal cooked by Kau-Kan for this great cause.
Yesterday was a mix of relaxing, reading, getting a nice breakfast at Margaritas, chatting with friends at El Cafecito at Casa Marina and doing some people watching. It's there that I saw these 2 guys carrying each 2 bushells full of something I could not quite make up with lemons all around it and a shot glass on top of it. Asking my friends, I was told these guys are selling grasshoppers! Well, being someone that has been all over the place and tried so many different things, I can't say I ever had these bugs. But then I got taunted by my friends and a Canadian does not back down from a good challenge
One bucket is fried natural and the other is fried with chile which I bought. It's 35 pesos and they are from Oaxaca. 1rst class grasshoppers, nicely grilled just the way I like them
They put the content of the shot glass in a small to go plastic bag and you pour a bit of lime juice on top and you are good to go. The taste is smokey and it's crunchy but nothing bad. Many mexicans seem to love this delicacy. After sharing some of my purchase at the cafe I headed out to Hotel Irma to check out the music and Happy Hour.
Of course I had to share mmy grasshoppers. Good times and pictures were taken. My Facebook has been busy this trip! The staff at the hotel is very nice and we all enjoyed the music and atmosphere. After eating some guacamole there and a beer I went back to my hotel and shower, changed and relax a bit before catching some of Guitarfest on the beach.
Then I joined some of my fellow Canadians as they headed to Barracuda to check out Jimmy Mamou. Always a good time watching this accomplished musician. After his set was done we called it a night but not before I took the group to Los Braseros for tacos al pastor and then a walk back to the hotel to digest it all.
This morning a friend came to visit and we had breakfast at Hotel Irma. Another awesome meal with an omelette in a green sauce that was so tasty. Nothing spicy but very flavorful. A glass to freshly squeezed orange juice to wash it down and get the energy going...Then back to my hotel to relax for a while before going to Centro to get my espresso fix. Then as the day went on had a nice guacamole from Casa Marina/Joe's restaurant and sat around for a while chatting with a few folks before heading back to my hotel.
Shower, changed and time for dinner at Los Braseros before another beach concert...This time it was the fish tacos Baja style and they are the best fish tacos I have found in Zihua over the years cooked this way. I love that place with so many great items to choose from and the staff is always so nice. Then it was time to check out the concert and it was a great one that went on until well past midnight. As I got back to the hotel, a nice cold Indio obscuro beer was waiting for me and it sure helped as tonight was hot and muggy with little to no wind...Great times keep on coming!
