What to do

Suggestions for best place/time to be to see the weighing of fish during the tournament Friday and weekend? Anything going on other than the muni dock? Thanks!

Tomorrow is of course Día del Trabajo and there will be a parade downtown in the morning after which the alcohol culture takes over. It's also the start of the fishing tournament which I believe will get underway at 7am or soon thereafter. Gotta wait for the bigwigs to show up and make their "official" presence.

The pier is in terrible shape and I cannot believe the "responsible authorities" are actually going to allow multitudes of people on it for the tournament, but I've seen no indication that they will act responsibly and close the pier.

It is still a kill tournament, which is a damn shame and keeps me from promoting it along with some transparency issues.

If I recall correctly, the boats must be in by 3pm every day during the tournament. Anything after that doesn't count. So usually between 2 and 3 is the best time to watch as many boats arrive in succession and the fish get weighed. The daily tallies will be visible on a large scoreboard in front of the Capitañía del Puerto office that shows all the entries along with their boat's name and the weight and size of any fish they catch. Usually the awards presentation is around 4:00 or 5:00 on Sunday amid the drunken reverie that takes place the final day.
